Jonathan McGillivray

Jonathan McGillivray is a partner at Resilient LLP. He maintains a specialized practice in all aspects of climate change and clean energy law and advises on a variety of mandates driven by the transition to a net-zero economy. Jonathan assists domestic and global clients on climate and net-zero strategy, decarbonization initiatives, carbon finance, renewable energy projects, innovative carbon transactions (including emission reduction and carbon removal purchase agreements and sustainable fuels agreements), biodiversity transactions, and energy regulatory compliance. He also advises proponents, investors, standards, and other organizations on carbon markets investments, governance, and regulatory compliance. Jonathan has appeared on behalf of clients before administrative tribunals (including the Ontario Energy Board) and various appellate courts. He regularly attends the UNFCCC climate negotiations.

Jonathan earned joint common law and civil law degrees from McGill University. Jonathan earned a Master of Arts in climate science and policy from Columbia University and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in international development from the University of Guelph. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada: Ones to Watch. Jonathan was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
