The Canada Climate Law Initiative (CCLI) and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) have issued a joint statement to the Competition Bureau of Canada to provide constructive input on the Bureau’s guidance for environmental claims under Bill C-59.

The submission reflects perspectives from Canadian investors and issuers who have identified a need for clear, practical examples of acceptable substantiation in the context of internationally recognized methodologies, the need for provisional use of emerging methodologies, and clarity surrounding the scope of the reuse of securities filings in marketing and promotional claims. Our recommendations aim to continue engagement with the Bureau to avoid discouraging credible climate disclosures through increased clarity and predictability for market participants while allowing the Bureau to maintain discretion.
