Sara Hastings-Simon
Associate Professor, Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment, and School of Public Policy at UCalgary
Dr. Sara Hastings-Simon is an Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. An expert in energy, innovation, and climate policy, her research in macro energy systems has focused on low carbon energy transitions at the intersection of policy, business and technology. She has worked with provincial and national governments, regulators, financial institutions, renewable energy developers, and oil and gas companies, researching innovation, the cleantech industry, modelling of the North American power sector, and development of international and domestic policy for climate change and emissions reduction. She is a Canadian Climate Governance Expert and a member of the panel for Clean Growth with the Canadian Climate Choices Institute and member of the board of directors of Emissions Reduction Alberta and the Pembina Institute. She is co-host of the Energy vs. Climate webinar and podcast series.
Previously, she was a Research Fellow at The School of Public Policy and a Senior Research Associate at the Payne Institute for Public Policy. She served as a member of the Alberta Clean Technology Task Force. Dr. Hastings-Simon was also Director of Clean Economy at the Pembina Institute where she founded Business Renewable Centre Canada. She holds a BA in Physics from Pomona College, MA in Physics from University of California at Santa Barbara, and a PhD in Physics from the University of Geneva.
