Exploring the upgraded edition of our Climate Risk & ESG for Corporate Governance and Decision-making micro-certificate program

In early January, the World Economic Forum (WEF) published its latest edition of the Global Risks Report. The report explores some of the most severe risks we may face over the next decade. Environmental risks continue to dominate, especially over the long-term horizon. During the launch event, Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director of the WEF, said they are no longer looking at climate change as one of the risks, but as one of the structural forces already unfolding, against which the rest of the risks need to be analyzed.

In an era defined by climate challenges, integrating climate-related risks and opportunities in businesses’ and organizations’ core strategy and operations has become an integral part of their success and resilience.

To equip business leaders and professionals with the essential skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of climate risk, governance, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors, we are pleased to announce the second cohort of our professional program is now open for enrollment.

Embracing sustainability: Why climate risk, governance and ESG matter

Climate change is not just an environmental issue – it’s a business imperative. Investors, stakeholders, and regulators are increasingly scrutinizing organizations for their sustainability commitments, actions, and governance.

Our program delves into the Canadian landscape, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the local context and global best practices. We adopt a holistic perspective, intertwining climate and ESG governance, risk management, strategy, implementation and evaluation through our perpetual cycle of climate governance framework. We recognize the interconnectedness of these elements and guide professionals in integrating them into their organization.

Program highlights: What to expect

Our program curriculum is curated and designed by industry leaders. From the foundations of climate science to the intricacies of reporting and disclosure, participants will gain a deep understanding of the concepts and principles that drive sustainable decision-making.

The feedback from the first cohort of 15 students in the fall of 2023 was positive. We took their ideas and recommendations to improve the course further.

Real-world applications

Theory meets practice in our program. We added more real-world examples in various industries, including the financial, telecommunications, and mining industries based on the feedback we received last fall. Through a final case study, examples, and interactive sessions, students will learn to apply their knowledge to the unique challenges and opportunities within the Canadian business landscape.

Learn from the best in the field

Our program features interviews with Canadian professionals. In addition to our existing interviews, we added three interviews from a corporate secretary and non-executive director, a C-suite leader, and a regulatory expert. Gain insights from their experiences, understand current trends, and envision the future of sustainable business practices.

Networking opportunities

Connect with a diverse group of professionals who share your commitment to growth and sustainability through more live sessions and office hours. Based on the feedback received from the first cohort, we increased the number and length of live sessions from three to five, for more collaboration, idea sharing, and network building with like-minded individuals who can support and inspire your journey.

Professional certification

Upon completion of the program, receive a professional digital certificate and a LinkedIn badge from the Canada Climate Law Initiative and the Peter A. Allard School of Law. Showcase your commitment to sustainability and elevate your professional profile.

Upon completion of the program, add a badge to your LinkedIn page
