Stéphane Rousseau

Dr. Stéphane Rousseau is Full Professor at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law where he occupies the Chair in Business Law and Governance. Dr. Stéphane is a recognized expert in corporate law, corporate governance and financial markets regulation. He is coauthor of leading textbooks in his fields of interests, including Droit des sociétés par actions, Analyse économique du droit, Business Law and Economics and Les devoirs des administrateurs lors d’une prise de contrôle. His most recent publication is Finance durable et caisses de retraite : est-il nécessaire de réviser les obligations fiduciaires? Dr. Rousseau serves as independent director on the board of directors of the Chambre de la sécurité financière.

He is a member of the disciplinary committee of the Bourse de Montréal and of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada. He is also an independent member of the the Board of Trustees of the University of Sherbrooke Pension Plan. In 2018, the Barreau du Québec has awarded him the distinction Avocat émérite (Ad. E.) that recognizes the excellence of his professional accomplishments. In 2019, he was awarded the Paul-André Medal that recognized his contribution to the advancement of the international aspect of private and commercial law in Canada.
